The 18-year-old’s promising life was cut short Saturday after she suffered what doctors believe was a fatal reaction to anesthesia during breast augmentation surgery.Nearly two hours into the surgery, Kuleba was rushed to Delray Medical Center, where she died 24 hours later, said the family’s attorney Roberto Stanziale. It’s a hot issue for cosmetic surgery professionals and the general public that whether a teen should go for a cosmetic procedure or remain away from going under a knife. In the above stated particular case, Kuleba was died due to the fatal reaction to anesthesia and this could not be attributed to cosmetic surgery. But it opens our eyes to be careful when taking a major procedure.

Skin Moles, Care and Prevention

Moles are said Nevus or Nevi in medical terms; physically they are small congenital growth on human skin. There are three types of moles, congenital nevi, acquired nevi and dysplastic nevi. Removal of moles generally required due to cosmetic reasons, skin irritation or to prevent further complications. Moles could be removed or cured by medicines, clinical surgery or with laser methods.

Mole Removal Surgery

Depending on the type and size of moles, surgery is performed to remove them. Before opting for a surgery, talk to your doctor or dermatologist that if it will be accurate decision to avoid any complications or infections. In surgery, there are three methods used to remove skin moles.

Excision method with stitches

This method is used on moles which could be potentially cancerous at later stages. With the help of a medical blade, the skin around and beneath the mole is removed in an oval shape. The area affected by the surgery then stitched.

Shaving method

It is most used method in mole removal surgery. This procedure is not very effective on typical moles, because it do not remove the deep tissues of moles which may cause it to grow again. In shaving method, the mole is lifted and a scalpel is used to shave it off. An electrical instrument is used to cauterize or burn it off. Afterward, antibiotics are used to cure infections.

A cauterizing tool is used to burn off the moles. No stitching or bandage is required afterward.

The healing period and pain associated will depend on the type of surgery performed and could be known by talking with the surgeon. The area should be cleaned twice a day with water or diluted hydrogen peroxide followed by applying an antibiotic ointment that does not contain neomycin.

Laser Mole Removal

Laser mole removal procedure is non invasive cosmetic surgery procedure. In this procedure, a laser light beam is used to heat up and burst the effected tissues. The laser beam is absorbed by the pigment of the mole which is then broken up and absorbed by the body. It is non invasive and do not need any stitches after the treatment. Laser mole removal is useful for new, small and flat moles and does not cover the old, large and deep ones.

How laser is applied

Before applying the laser light, the skin is numbed and laser beam with typical setting is used to decrease or remove the effected pigmentation of moles. Procedure time is dependent on the type and size of moles. During the treatment, no pain is involved as it is applied in sharp pulses of light.

After the treatment, the skin may become darker or redden. The mole will turn into scab which should fall of within two weeks. The new skin beneath will become sensitive and should be avoided from direct sunlight. A sunscreen should be used for several weeks.

Risks or side effects of laser mole removal

According to the nature of mole, a local or general anesthesia may be required which always carry risks. Care should be taken to check for the credentials of doctor or laser technician. In some cases infection, scarring, bleeding or skin color changes may occur.

Generally 1 to 3 sessions may be needed to remove the moles completely. The cost associated with this treatment may vary according to the type of moles and the area. Typically it ranges from $100 to $150. This procedure comes under cosmetic surgery and do not covered by the health insurance.
